Tech Summit 2025 – Let’s Collaborate

By Manfred (Fred) Schindler, 2025 Past VP, Technical Activities

The 2025 Technology Summit is the inaugural edition of an annual series sponsored by Technical Activities, with broad participation across IEEE and beyond. The 2025 event will take place 2-3 October in Glasgow, Scotland. Each edition of the TechSummit will cover a broad-interest technical topic selected by the immediate Past VP of Technical Activities. For 2025, the focus will be CleanTech Solutions.

Tech Summit 2025: CleanTech Solutions is a curated event. It’s not a scholarly conference – we won’t have a call for papers or a peer review process. All our presentations, panel sessions, breakout sessions, and other activities will be held by invitation. We encourage suggestions for topics, speakers, and contributors from all our Societies and Councils, Technical Communities, Initiatives, and units across IEEE. We also welcome and encourage sponsorships from IEEE units and activities as well as industry and outside partners. A sponsorship prospectus is available for those interested in supporting the event.

An Interdisciplinary and Industry-Focused Event

CleanTech Solution is an interdisciplinary event and will emphasize industry participation. We will include technical content cutting across such topics as Climate Change, Sustainability, Energy Storage and Solutions, Green Tech Solutions, CleanTech, and related topics. Our event provides an opportunity for interesting, informative, and engaging talks, demonstrations, hands-on experiences, dialogue, and debate.

We will feature an innovative event design. The design of Tech Summit 2025: CleanTech Solutions is the result of a nearly year-long project with the Event Design Collective. A highlight of the project was a full-day event design sprint at IEEE Convene in August, where over two hundred participants in thirteen cohorts considered how various stakeholder perspectives should be considered throughout the event design lifecycle.

A Pitch Competition for Emerging Innovators

One exciting feature of CleanTech Solutions is a pitch competition, the IEEE Global Startup Competition: 2025 Clean Tech Solutions is organized in collaboration with IEEE Entrepreneurship, Young Professionals, and Student Activities. Participants enter the competition by submitting an application and video. Entries are categorized into two competition tracks:

1. Start-up – pitches for investor-ready teams

2. Ideation – pitches of teams earlier in the entrepreneurship process.

A judging panel will select semifinalists for each track to make live virtual pitches and then down-select the finalists who will be invited to join us in Glasgow for the final round of the competitions. See our website for guidelines and details.

Bringing Together a Global Community

Tech Summit aims to bring together participants across the IEEE and beyond. CleanTech Solutions is a topic we are all interested in. It’s a topic with ongoing activities in virtually all our communities —  technical and geographical. Clean technology is a key part of building a more sustainable future for all of us. Reducing or eliminating the negative effects of waste, pollution, energy consumption, and climate change speaks directly to the IEEE mission. This is an opportunity to learn, share, and network; for us to be greater than the sum of our parts. Now that is something we can all get behind.

  1. Excited to see the Event Design for Tech Summit 2025 come to life thanks to our collaborative approach starting pre IEEE Convene 2024 in Hawaii. Keen to see how the event will focus on the single topic and deliver on the behaviour changes we designed for. Keep us posted!
