Technological innovation is advancing at an unprecedented pace. Breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI), automation, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, healthcare technologies, fintech, and space-enabled systems are reshaping industries and redefining the skills required to compete. While these advances are creating new markets and opportunities, they are also exposing workforce gaps, as demand for specialized and interdisciplinary talent increasingly outpaces traditional hiring and education pipelines.
AI, in particular, has become a foundational technology across nearly every sector, accelerating adoption in enterprise systems, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, and government services. As organizations scale digital systems and adopt new technologies, the need to connect skilled talent with real-world opportunities has become a shared challenge across regions and industries.
As IEEE advances its “OneIEEE strategy”, industry engagement has become a central priority; connecting with industry, understanding workforce needs, and enabling organizations to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology trends.
The IEEE Industry Engagement Committee (IEC) plays a key role in advancing this mission by facilitating industry engagement activities across IEEE and launching initiatives that support professionals, companies, corporations, and government organizations. In close collaboration with IEEE Technical Activities – the home of IEEE’s 49 Technical Societies and Councils – and the TAB Committee on Technical Community Outreach, Engagement, and Society Membership (TCOES), IEC launched the IEEE Virtual Career Fair Series as a pilot program designed to translate strategy into action.
The series offers a scalable, virtual platform that connects global technical talent with employers, while supporting organizations in addressing workforce challenges across high-growth technology sectors.
The value of this model was demonstrated through the first nationwide IEEE Virtual Career Fair (USA), held in October 2025. Co-hosted by IEC and Technical Activities, the event brought together IEEE organizational units across the ecosystem, including IEEE-USA, Member and Geographic Activities, Students, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering, and multiple IEEE Societies.
The event attracted over 2,000 attendees, 40+ hiring companies, and resulted in more than 500 job and internship opportunities, validating the demand for a coordinated, IEEE-led approach to workforce development and career engagement.
Building on this momentum, IEEE is expanding the series with the IEEE Virtual Career Fair – Latin America, scheduled for February 26, 2026, in collaboration with IEEE Region 9.
Region 9 spans Latin America, Central America, and the Caribbean, representing a vibrant IEEE community with over 24,000 members, 528 Student Branches, 265 Technical Chapters, and strong networks of Young Professionals and Women in Engineering. This diverse ecosystem reflects a deep pool of technical talent aligned with both regional and global industry needs.
The Latin America Career Fair is designed to engage 1,500+ students and professionals seeking internships, early-career roles, and professional opportunities. The event is attracting—and actively targeting—companies across sectors, including AI and data services, telecommunications, software and cloud services, fintech and digital banking, healthcare technologies, manufacturing, and infrastructure, as well as multinational organizations with operations across the region.

Delivering a region-wide event of this scale requires coordinated effort across countries, languages, time zones, and cultures. The fair is being organized by the Region 9 Industry Engagement Committee in close collaboration with IEC, Technical Activities, and TCOES.
The event is co-chaired by Juan Galindo and Nury Ramirez, whose leadership—together with a committed volunteer team across Latin America – is helping align outreach, communications, and engagement efforts to ensure broad participation from both talent and employers.
The IEEE Virtual Career Fair – Latin America represents an important step in scaling a proven workforce development model globally. Through collaboration among IEC, Technical Activities, TCOES, and regional leadership, IEEE is demonstrating how a unified, OneIEEE approach can connect talent, industry, and opportunity at scale.
As the IEEE Virtual Career Fair Series continues to expand across additional regions, initiatives like this reinforce IEEE’s role as a trusted partner for workforce development—advancing technology and supporting technologists for the benefit of humanity.
