Marking Milestones, Advancing Systems Thinking, and Shaping the Future

In 2025, the IEEE Systems Council proudly commemorates its 20th anniversary. Established in 2005, the Council has played a pivotal role in advancing systems engineering and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration worldwide. To celebrate this milestone, the Council invites the global community to join us at IEEE RASSE 2025 (RASSE25) for a retrospective on two decades of progress—and a forward-looking vision for the future of complex systems engineering.
A Milestone Celebration at RASSE25
At the Council’s premier event, the 2025 Research and Applications of Systems Science and Engineering (RASSE25) Conference will host the official anniversary celebration. Highlights include:
- A special commemorative banquet on Thursday, November 6, 2025
- Recognition of past and present Council leaders, including officers and past presidents
- Presentation of Council and Chapter Awards
- An evening of networking and entertainment
About RASSE25
The RASSE Conference serves as a dynamic forum for researchers, practitioners, engineers, and educators to exchange cutting-edge insights, explore practical applications, and envision the future of systems science and engineering. Core focus areas include:
- Complex systems and systems of systems
- Systems integration methodologies and enabling technologies
- Applications of systems science addressing national and global challenges
Chapter Summit and Global Collaboration
The celebration continues with the annual Systems Council Chapter Summit on Saturday, November 8, 2025. This gathering of Chapter Chairs from around the world fosters knowledge exchange, highlights impactful initiatives, and strengthens cross-regional collaboration. Council officers will provide strategic updates aligned with the Council’s mission.
Our Mission and Vision
The IEEE Systems Council is committed to promoting systems engineering and systems thinking in academic, technical, and applied contexts. It pursues this mission through Council-led programs and cooperative efforts with IEEE Member Societies.
The Council’s vision: To be globally recognized as the leading organization for systems engineering and systems thinkers.
Areas of Strategic Focus
By bridging diverse IEEE disciplines, the Council focuses on key systems domains, including:
- Systems of Systems and Systems Engineering
- Systems thinking and architecture
- Risk and requirements management
- Modeling, simulation, and integration
- Safety, security, resilience, and usability
- Program and project management
- Lifecycle processes—from design through decommissioning
Get Involved
While IEEE Technical Councils do not offer individual membership, IEEE Members are welcome to participate in Systems Council activities at no additional cost. Opportunities include:
- Conferences (such as RASSE)
- Publications and technical committees
- Awards and recognition programs
- Chapter and leadership roles
- Distinguished Lecturer Series
- Standards development initiatives
