Tech Summit 2025: CleanTech Solutions

By Fred Schindler, Immediate Past Vice President, Technical Activities

By now, I hope you’ve heard about our initial IEEE Technology Summit, 2-3 October in Glasgow, Scotland. It’s organized by IEEE Technical Activities with IEEE-wide participation – a One IEEE event. Tech Summit is designed to be a forum for collaboration across IEEE and beyond. The topic of the 2025 Tech Summit, CleanTech Solutions, is something of broad interest in our technical societies and councils, in IEEE generally, and among industry, academia, government and the public. Clean technologies are truly interdisciplinary pursuits, and CleanTech Solutions will be that interdisciplinary forum.

Tech Summit is an annual event. While the initial event will focus on clean technologies and sustainability, future Tech Summits will have different focus areas. Each year’s topic will be selected by the prior year’s VP of Technical Activities. The permanent website is techsummit.ieee.org. Be sure to visit the website for all the details about this year’s event, and for updates on future events.

The program for Clean Tech Solutions includes content from across IEEE and from other organizations, including industry leaders. Speakers and panelists will cover a full range of CleanTech topics in what promises to be a lively and informative forum. We are also pleased to have engaging and informative exhibitors and sponsors. The full spectrum of IEEE is participating, including all six of our major boards.

The 2025 Tech Summit also features the IEEE CleanTech Grand Challenge, a pitch competition organized in collaboration with IEEE Entrepreneurship, Young Professionals, and Student Activities. Ten semi-finalists have been selected in 2 categories from among the 170 pitches submitted. They will make their final pitches to a panel of judges at the event.

Glasgow is a global leader in sustainability and the perfect host city for this inaugural event, celebrating industry innovation and thought leadership connected to urgent climate targets. This is an opportunity to highlight the contributions we are making to clean technologies and sustainability across the IEEE. I encourage you to join us in Glasgow. Make your plans soon -space is limited! Take advantage of early registration discounts by registering before 21 August 2025.
